I am a programmer and not an artist so I apologize in advance if the question I am asking sounds trivial.

But does anyone know what these things (floating interconnected ball effect) is called? I see them almost everywhere in the web development world.

How is the affect of these semi-translucent shaded balls achieved, and does anyone have any recommendations on where to obtain or create these assets for myself?

@Bryan765

If I understand what you're asking, here is one way to do it:

Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to bring up the "Save for Web" interface.
Select "Ping-8" as the file type.
Click on the color swatch that you want to be transparent.(White in this case)
With the desired swatch selected, click the "Maps selected colors to
transparent" option at the bottom of the Color Table window.
Click Save.

Now I am trying to get a consistent distance above my headings throughout my document by changing the "space before" value. My anchored object, however, does not seem to fazed by that in the slightest bit ... not to say it is ignoring the setting completely. See this video for evidence:

This surely is a rather simple and dumb mistake I am making, but anchored objects and text wrap in general are kind of giving me a hard time, so help would be appreciated :)

 query : How heavy should ink coverage be for a custom CMYK rich black? In recent jobs, I have skewed away from pre-mixed rich black formulas in favour of making a black that fits dominant colours

@Bryan765

Posted in: #Black #Cmyk #Color #PrintDesign #PrintProduction

In recent jobs, I have skewed away from pre-mixed rich black formulas in favour of making a black that fits dominant colours in the publication. For example, in a publication with a dominant full magenta colour scheme, I used a pure magenta rich black (C0 M100 Y0 K100) and the results came out great.

In a current job, I have a dominant green that is C50 M0 Y100 K15. To create a fitting rich black for this identity, my first impulse was to add half the cyan and Yellow values to the existing 100% black. That yields C25 M0 Y50 K100. Is that too light?

My question is: how much ink, in percentages, should I add to the 100% to at least have a satisfying rich black? How 'wet' should a good rich black be?

Edit: I understand all that is said in What kind of black should I use when designing for CMYK print? and I'm applying most of it. None of the answers to that question specify how much ink a rich black should have at minimum to be a rich black; to avoid the pale, translucent black of 100K.

As you can see the leading numbering is in blue, but the text itself is in black.

I sadly have no idea how to recreate this in InDesign. When I make a table of contents I can choose a Paragraph style for the text, but no character style for the numbering (at least I cannot find it). Also when I add numbering in my paragraph style, I simply have 2 numberings ... one in the desired colour and one in black (coming from the TOC). This obviously is not what I desire.

@Bryan765

SVG is a coded file format (XML-based) and Sketch could be coding something in a way Illustrator doesn't like.

You could try using an SVG Optimizer like SVGOMG - SVGO's Missing GUI to see if it can clean up the code so Illustrator doesn't choke on it.

I just tried it on an SVG that Illustrator had problems importing and it didn't crash. It still gave an error and then looked wrong but after running the SVG through that SVGOMG website, it imported without error and looked correct.

 query : Re: Round corners (fillet) in Illustrator CS6 I have the following figure in which I need to make a fillet to each its corners: Is there some tool to avoid doing this manually? I tried the Effect

@Bryan765

There's no easy way to do this nativley in Illustrator CS6. (In the last couple of CC editions Adobe implemented a tool called Live corners which does it)

If you just used the Rounded Corner effect, it warps the circle (see below)

You have to do a bit of prep first:

Add in a line (dashed in my case) in a locked background layer (to align both my anchor points evenly)

Then place 2 anchor points there (one on each side), and only then can you use the Effects → Rounded Corners

The problem with first doing rounded corners effect, is that it causes the circle to get warped (because there aren't any anchor points, if you add them in, it stops the rounding at that anchor point)

Notice, that I did not add in anchor points to the bottom part, and it got warped

Update: in my image it seems as though it is warping the path. here are the outcomes (after rounding corner effect):

Overlayed at 30% (after that anchor point, none of the rest of the path is effected):

For a much easier and simpler method, I would recommend a great plug-in by Astute Graphics* called Vectorscribe.

It is very simple and easy to use. (It isn't free, however they offer a 14 day free trial)

It also has some other tools included in vectorscribe, like measurements and path cleanup

@Bryan765

Premise

I am tasked with taking a normal picture and tracing the geometric design in Adobe Illustrator and saving as an SVG. I have traced simple shapes and saved as SVG before, but this particular image really has me scratching my head. I will attach a small version here for reference:

What I have tried

Update

I have since went forward with the custom brush pattern approach. It got me surprisingly close as you will see below. I drew a circle and chose the custom brush, then I used Effect>>Distort>>Distort and Transform to make 6 concentric circles (there are 6 circles in the original picture, if I'm not mistaken). I scaled them at 92% which resulted in a nice transition of 1 circle to the next smaller circle, however it left me with a lot of empty space in the middle. I'm not sure how to get the scaling right; perhaps I need to make my custom brush thicker? My custom brush is provided to the right of the satellite mock-up.

Even after I get the scaling/copying just right, the issue of the 3/4 perspective is unresolved.

I will leave my original question here so as not to invalidate any existing answers.

Question: Is there a fairly time-efficient technique that Adobe Illustrator can bring to bear for a task like this? Any help big or small will be appreciated, thank you.

Optional Question: Is my custom brush technique going to pan out? I'm still stuck at the scaling and how to rotate the perspective to match the original picture. I would appreciate any specific tips with regards to those problems.

Further Clarification

Need to retain as much of the underlying geometry as possible
Result should resemble a wire-frame, nearly as complex but high resolution (or infinitely scalable)
Need to export or save as SVG
The three prongs that stick out could be traced the old-fashioned way easy enough, so the focus will be on the circular geometry and all the criss-crossing lines

I made a large project with a bunch of layers, but I need each layer exported as it's own (.jpg/.png) image.

I know there's a way to export my project by artboards, but now It's all in separate layers (on one artboard).

What would be the easiest way for me to export all my layers (~25) without cloning each layer to a new artboard (and then dealing with all the placement etc.)?

Is it even possible? Would I have to use a script?

I built a pdf and added a button. I want to import a file on this button click. There is no native option for this in inDesign.
I thought scripting may be a solution but I dont know its exact usage or how to assign it to the button as I dont see such a option in inDesign CC.

Thanks for the time.

My problem

I am building a tutorial site with code blocks that the user should copy and paste into their console. I would like to add a copy button to the code snippets that would intuitively make them click on it on order to copy the code in the block.

I found quite a few icons, and I wonder whether there is a convention for such a copy-code-text icon.

What have I tried

Searched "Copy Icons", "Copy to console icon" and so on
Looked at a few sites with code samples, but found nothing cnclusive

My question

What is the right icon for the "copy code in snippet" action in an HTML page?

I'm using InDesign to design a packaging that has different large sides, flaps, bleed, etc. and artwork all over these.

Which is the smartest way to build this kind of document with InDesign?

Is it right to make a document as large as the whole packaging and create manually the single parts with a special color?
Or is it possible to create single sites with different measures?
Or something completely different?

Long time listener, first time caller.

I have this logo I have been playing around in Canva with and I want to recreate it in Illustrator to use. As you can see it is 4 Crescent shaped semi-circles surrounding a centre circle to give this "Clover" appearance.

I am having trouble creating the 4 Crescents to fit perfectly around the centre circle without cutting or being proportionally unequal.

Any help as to go about recreating this?
