 query : Re: How can I make these luminous realistic lines? I am trying to make the same luminous lines on Photoshop, I have made these , but they are no where close to what is in the picture! Any

@Chiappetta793

First of all, it seems like they have a gradient swatch applied to the stroke, from red, to gold, to yellow. Then the line is not a brush stroke, but rather a pen tool created line with a nice bezier curves. Last you could go to effects and add a bit of outer glow to the layer. I am not an expert in Ps but that's what I would doI think you could put all object layers into one folder and apply the effect to all at once. But I think the gradient is most important to make them look alive. Try that?

@Chiappetta793

As of 2018, there's a plugin to do exactly what you want. Takes a bunch of external SVGs, and places them each in an artboard, arranged in a grid. will even add a mask & color fill if you want to do symbol overrides. The plugin is the Sketch Icons plugin (detailed instructions here).

 query : Re: How to give a solid motion trail to an object Sorry about the title, I don't know how to describe this, therefore I am not sure what to search for to see if this can be done. I'm working

@Chiappetta793

There are several ways of achieving what you want. You could use illustrator's 3d tools to extrude a shape similar to what you want, then expand the shapes and color as you wish:

Another way is to use a Blend:

A blend combines two shapes in multiple steps, though you can choose for it to be seamless.

To do that, create two shapes, the first, and end ones in your "trail", and select them.

Open blend options (Object→Blend→Blend Options) and choose a high number of steps

Then create a Blend - Object→Blend→Make or Ctrl/Cmnd+Alt+B

Suppose I have a folder of different images, all different in sizes and resolutions.

I want to randomly choose between 6 and 18 of these images, scale, crop, and combine them as square tiles onto a rectangular (DIN A4) canvas. The end result should be a cmyk tiff or pdf file with a resolution of 1200 dpi.

Is there a way to do this with imagemagick or another tool?

The end result should look something like this

but without the white margins between the tiles.

@Chiappetta793

Ok, based on your description, it seems like you should be using the AutoLayout plugin. This is a super powerful plugin that lets you do many neat things with layouts of elements, but the specific functionality that can help you is "stacks", where you have elements on top of each other, and the plugin automatically spaces them, even if you change their height (mini demo here)

I am trying to "Convert to Shape" an SVG plot according to this tutorial (Convert an SVG image to an Office shape) in PowerPoint 2016.

The SVG file I am trying to edit is svgshare.com/i/5AL.svg (please right click the link and select "Save link as..." to download). If you insert this svg plot to PowerPoint 2016 and select it, go to Format and Convert to Shape, you'll probably see that the title and axis title disappears. How to avoid this?

@Chiappetta793

Posted in: #AdobeIndesign #Tables

Above is what my table looks like and it spans over a few pages. It's a single table that I have broken across multiple pages. The problem is, the table parts on all pages are of different heights and it looks odd. So my question is, how do I justify the table size to be same across all the pages? Or manually control the size of the tables? The text box for the table is the same size on all pages.

Thanks

@Chiappetta793

When using the Image>Adjust>Match Color feature... It may be necessary to remove elements from the source image that are not in the new image. For example, the yellow line in the road will cause the entire other image to have a yellow cast since the other image doesn't have any yellow to try and match it to.

Remove the yellow line from the image, then try the Image>Adjust>Match Color feature again.

@Chiappetta793

You can do this manually by contracting a selection:

Use the 'Magic Wand' (W, might need to switch away from 'Quick Selection') tool to select all of your shape. Adjust tolerance to 1 if needed.
Choose Select > Modify > Contract... and choose 1 pixel for the contraction value.
Use the 'Paint Bucket' (G, might need to switch away from 'Gradient') tool to fill the contracted selection with a slightly different colour.
Repeat steps 2. and 3. until you are content with the effect.

 query : What are general rules for appropriated logos (Whether you are selling them as a design, or using them fro marketing)? I have a clothing brand I've been working on and really like the look

@Chiappetta793

Posted in: #Copyright #Logo #Trademark

I have a clothing brand I've been working on and really like the look of the STP Oil logo. I've seen some bigger name brands make parodies of logos like this before, I was wondering what the actual legality of this is?

I've heard of patagonia sending people cease and desists for logo rips, but I've also seen/heard companies never being contacted over a logo appropriation. Does this still fall under the parody law where atleast 30% of the image must be changed?

Essentially, I'd be changing the "S", "T" and "P" into the name of my brand, while using the general shape and colors. I originally planned to just use this for marketing on Instagram, but would I also be able to sell it on clothing later on?

Edit: Posted on law stackexchange as recommended by commentors.

@Chiappetta793

I've used media encoder to change a batch of .ai files to .png. You can add the .ai files to the queue. I set up a pre-set with the following settings...
Format: PNG
Keep Export Video checked but uncheck Export as Sequence. Match Source for the other settings.
Then add the .ai files to the Media Encoder queue and run the queue.
It does seem a little slow at running the process but at least it's automated - saved me having to manually save as 1170 .ai files!

i draw from time to time, just as a stress reliever and a hobby. i'm into very basic sketches, nothing to crazy honestly, but i always shied away from drawing people because i get intimidated. i don't want to commit myself to drawing because i do it for fun, but when it comes to people, I really don't like the proportion lines??? Like the lines that you draw first, and then you draw the person it and then erase it. I just find it very messy and frustrating especially because I'm not serious about drawing. But I would love to simple sketches of people. Has any felt the same way, and if so, any tips?

@Chiappetta793

Educate your customer.

If they are hiring you to do some print work (evidenced by the CMYK setting), they should never review that work just casually on a phone. Ask them to take the time for the review and urge them to look at your comps on a computer.

As joojaa says in the comments, colour reproduction on a mobile device can be absolutely horrible, and is dependent upon a multitude of uncontrollable factors like mobile OS, viewing software, screen settings and ambient light.

Honestly, if a customer would review my print comps on a mobile, I'd be very insulted at how casually they take my hard work.

@Chiappetta793

I think its several different issues that make designers "hate" a font, and they often get clumped together

Bad quality. If a font is badly designed, then it will stick out. Amateur designers often do not recognize that a font might be badly designed and use it anyways. In this regard, Comic Sans has many design flaws (it's not terrible, though), but Lobster is a very well designed typeface.
Overuse. Especially in the case of free fonts or fonts that come bundled with the OS, they tend to get overused quickly and people get tired of them. The lose all originality and impact, and get associated with unprofessional design. Both Comic Sans and Lobster suffer from this phenomenon.
Inappropriate use. Designers know when to use what kind of font, but when fonts are used in contexts that don't fit (a comic font for a business letter, a sci-fi font for a wedding invitation) it makes it look cheap and jarring. Both Comic Sans and Lobster are often used in context where they don't really fit.

@Chiappetta793

You won't find a tool to do this automatically, most likely. If your software does not allow you to choose tabular figures (which I imagine is the case), you would need to open the font in a font editor, change the tabular numbers for the regular ones (by copying and pasting into the right glyph slots), and re-export. You could use FontForge, which is open source for this.

But before you do this , make sure the licence for the fonts allows you to make modifications such as these.

Color Spectrum Wheel, recreate it and apply it as you wish.
Swiss Style, look at the color overlaying.

 query : Re: Illustrator: which artboard size for logo design Can you tell me what size of artboard should I use in Illustrator and also what kind of settings should i do like CMYK vs. RGB while making

@Chiappetta793

To be blunt: it's irrelevant. As you can always change artboard size and colour settings later, and scale your logo infinitely, just choose whatever you like.

If your logo is going to be printed (read: if you aren't completely sure that the logo is going to be used on-screen exclusively), it is very wise to do the design of the colour palette in a CMYK environment. That way, you are sure that you always pick colours that are printable in an affordable way. You could, however, still design the logo shape in a different colour mode if that suits your fancy.

There are corner cases imaginable where a very small (a few centimeters) or a very big artboard size (meters) would give you problems later. Those are, indeed, corner cases like when you use pixel effects. Most of these cases are solvable by scaling your artwork.

tl;dr: it doesn't matter. If it ever comes into play, you can easily fix it.
