 query : Re: How to restrict web site/intranet access to company network? What is the best/most secure way to create a web site or intranet on an externally hosted server, but make it only accessible from

@Dunderdale272

Step 1: Require a Login

Add a login page in front of any content you don't want accessed externally. This will also help stop anybody visiting your office and using your WiFi from getting in. This is also a good idea even if you do host internally.

Step 2: Add an SSL

Add an SSL certificate so that you can load the site over HTTPS. This will stop any snoopers between your office and the webserver from reading what's going on.

Step 3: Block External Visitors

Use your .htaccess or nginx config to block IP addresses outside your company network. Anybody working remotely who still needs access should be able to do so via VPN.

Apache:

Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
Allow from 1.2.3.4

nginx:

location / {
allow 1.2.3.4;
deny all;
}

Step 4: Set Noindex

Just in case any crawlers still manage to get past the IP block (which is easy enough to mess up or lose after a config update), tell them not to index your site.

Add <meta name="robots" content="noindex" /> into the HEAD of your pages, and return a X-Robots-Tag "noindex, nofollow" header.

nginx:

add_header X-Robots-Tag "noindex, nofollow";

PHP:

header("X-Robots-Tag: noindex", true);

I m really concerned about losing mobile traffic because my customers only care about alexa rank! Is Alexa tracks traffic of AMP pages and count them? Or after using AMP my rank will be worse in Alexa and traffic counting based systems?

@Dunderdale272

While, yes it is rather spammy; your =<10 emails a week is not in the "I'm a spambot email" category. I think it would take a while with this pattern to be noticed at the automated blacklist level.

What I would be more concerned with is damaging your reputation and that of your software. Asking for links/press without paying somehow (money or web value) is considered pushy in business web etiquette. What will you offer these people in return? They will expect some reciprocity. If you can offer them valuable backlinks, increased exposure or a quality guest post then there is something in it for them. Consider what value you can add to their site/business and then offer that in exchange for a mention/link.

You've stepped into the marketing sphere, so think like a marketer. It's all about adding value and giving the other party something they want or need in return. I think this is the more difficult part for developers, the people skills. query : Re: OpenType Variable Fonts: Supported Browsers Variable fonts have been on the drawing board for sometime and Google just released Chrome 62 with support for these new fonts and looks fairly simple

@Dunderdale272

Lets get to the simpler answer first, browser support for variable fonts: Firefox developer editions have some level of support, now Chrome 62, Chrome Android, Safari iOS, and Safari. Based on usage, Chrome + mobiles & Safari hit the majority of the most used browsers looking at Can I Use. And now that Chrome has hit general release, the other browsers that want to stay in the race will be following suit.

As with everything browser related there may be some different implementations and some commands supported or not supported. Best to check the release notes for which ones you expect to support and use settings common to all.

Workaround: you can use CSS attributes instead. Not as fancy, but they are cross-browser compatible and they work. You can set a default in your CSS and then modify the font to variable settings in the places where you want variable fonts. Try a short bit of CSS on a couple of browsers and see if this gets the look you want. I think setting it in CSS is safer than allowing the browser to use it's default -- by user that could be almost anything.

@Dunderdale272

Context

Suppose I have a WebPage which gives a lot of semantically marked-up information about a specific collection of things. These things could adequately be identified by the type CreativeWork.

On the same page these CreativeWorks are displayed.

Intuitively I would use bib.schema.org/Collection for the information section about the collection (and use the the hasPart property to refer to its items), because the definition of Collection is:

A created collection of Creative Works or other artefacts.

See: bib.schema.org/Collection
However, bib.schema.org says it is an extension of schema.org, which

defines terms such as Audiobook, Thesis, ComicStory, and
workTranslation

This seems limiting the use of bib.schema.org to collections with textual or spoken content.

I doubt if a CollectionPage is a good choice in this case, because the webpage document does not solely lists collections, but also gives a lot of semantically marked-up information about a the collection itself.

Question

Which type should I use for the collection itself? Are there alternatives for CollectionPage which do not identify a page, but rather a section of it?

@Dunderdale272

If a job is no longer available, then a 404 makes sense. Sure, you could leave the page as a 200, with the original description if you're worried about duplicate content, but then you have a less helpful user experience.

I'd go for a two-fold solution like this:

Return a 404
Include "Similar jobs you might find interesting" in the page

The 404 header will tell search engines that the page is no longer relevant and no longer needs to be indexed. The related jobs content will help any users who still land on the page to find new jobs.

@Dunderdale272

Here is an excellent article explaining how domains and subdomains impact SEO. To summarize, subdomains have a relative dependence, not absolute, on the root domain. Bad SEO on a subdomain can negatively impact your root domain. Better to use subdirectories like mysite.com/blog than subdomains like blog.mysite.com so that all downstream pages can benefit from the keyword placement on your root domain. Keyword placement feeds down, not up. Subdirectories receive and pass page rank and link "juice", so benefits flow both ways. However, do not go crazy with subdirectories or you will dilute the benefits.

 query : Re: Is there way to force Google to think that sub domain as totally separated are from main domain? Is there way to force Google to think that sub domain as totally separated are from main domain?

@Dunderdale272

Google consider a sub domain as a completely different website for his domain. So if your domain rank well in "cars (for example) a sub domain can rank well in "pets care".

But Google still know if 2 or more website are related even if them are on different domains and different servers, easier if it is a sub domain.

So as from the comment of Stephen Ostermiller if you do something wrong will be partially reflect on the main domain, as well as if you do something good.

If you want to keep a clear image and easy navigation system on your main site without mess up with link between subdomains and tools and blogs or whatever, I can suggest you to have only 2 domains (so not so expensive): 1 is the main one, for your web design agency, the other one you can use for tools and experiment and anything you like. This not for Google but also for your pace of mind that keep separate the "experiment" (for example maybe in the future you will shut down a tool).
example:

main site: yourmaindomain.com

other services:
yourseconddomain.com/imagehostingservice

yourseconddomain.com/seotools

yourseconddomain.com/calculator

And keep them in 2 different cPanel, not for SEO reason but to keep easy the navigation of the main website without using subdomain that maybe point to folder also reachable from other URL (example: you have a subdomain -sub.example.com- that point to public_html/subdomainfolder. That folder you can reach by sub.example.com but also from example.com/subdomainfolder and this can generate confusion when search engine try to map your site.

Then you can link to each other some pages if need.

An alternative would be to use Cloudflare. Just set up the old domain in Cloudflare (using their DNS), then use Page Rules with the Forwarding option. They provide free SSL (TLS) so there would be even less server config to worry about on your end.

I've been trying to find some ideas for this, but my Google searches have been rather fruitless. Even in with "farmers market" in quotes, it keeps on returning general SEO.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or share some ideas for how to perform local SEO for a farmers market.

The biggest issue I can see, is that the location is a school and from Google's perspective the school already operates at the business address.

I am assuming it would not be possible to create GMB listing with this address, so would it be at all possible to get in on the map?

I'm guessing that citations across market listings websites, and other other local listings would be pointless without a valid GMB listing.

Is there a way to create a GMB listing, or any other way to get it on the map or any other workarounds for local SEO?

@Dunderdale272

Nothing is ever really "hack-proof" when you consider the multitude of attack vectors.

Whilst a purely static website may not be susceptible to SQL injection or WordPress script-kiddie attacks, there's still the possibility of an attacker getting server access or even just FTP access. This can be mitigated by disabling any cleartext access (i.e. use SSH/SFTP in place of telnet & FTP) and good user/password management, but never assume you're totally hack-proof as there's just no such thing.

I have 4 versions (http/https) x (www/non www) of my website in search console.

But I realised that I needed search analytics information on a subpage's ranking on google, but when I check search analytics, I didn't have this information for my subpage.

So I have added this subpage (https://www.example.com/mypage) as a new site.

Q1: Is there any negative affects of this action ?

Q2: Is that a rational action ? I mean, am I on the right track for my goal?

Q3: Is there anything I should do more? (Like adding 4 versions of this subpage, or adding a sitemap, or any other thing that I can't think of.)

At first, I was thinking of using a full page iframe but that would make it hard for normal users to share the page they are viewing (and cannot bookmark any pages they are viewing).

Then I thought maybe I can have GoodURL.BadFeatures.com request the content from BadURL.GoodFeatures.com and give only its output

I made many changes for the SEO Techniques and optimized the load speed for the website, but there are a huge lose in ALexa Rank. I don't know really what's wrong.

Many times I think all of SEO advises is a fake thing because I have a competitors publishing same content with low quality articles with many mistakes, DA is lower than me, SEO score is lower than me, and bounce rate is higher than me, but they take a higher rank than me in search results.

Please if anyone have any idea, share it because I'm going to lose my mind.
