The picture I included illustrates the issue. The biggest problem is that the effect escalates: so if I had to add several shades, the gap would become bigger and bigger each time I applied path/difference, and become visible even without zooming.
Is there a way to avoid it?
: Re: What font is used on the cover of Boosey & Hawkes pocket scores? I have consulted WhatTheFont!, Identifont, and FindMyFont, with pretty abysmal results. I would like to identify the font in
It's Gill Sans with an alternative 'Q'. The current Gill Sans Nova digitisation does include it.
That style of 'Q' was very normal in the nineteenth century, like on Century Schoolbook, and the metal type version of Gill Sans included it (and many other alternate characters) which were available by special order. Here it is in the introductory specimen along with an alternate R and J as well, but that sample still does show the normal Q we're used to as well. It might have been done to give printers a 'Q' that doesn't drop below the baseline at all if they wanted to give lines of capitals a more linear effect, like with the alternative 'J'.

This is probably far easier than I'm making it out to be.. I have this path that I duplicated and reflected but since both paths have a border I'm not sure how to join them so that the path is just one continuous path (without a line down the middle separating them...)
: Re: What is this helvetica-like font called? The font is used in this dribbble post for the headlines and titles, not the body text. So far I have tried multiple font identification sites but
My recommendation would be Sailec, which is very nice.
As people have said, this is San Francisco Display. It has a detailed license, but in summary Apple only permits its use on Apple hardware and for related development (mockups and so on)–you can't host this as a webfont except to call it if viewing a webpage on an Apple device. Whoever did this webpage is mocking up what it would look like on an iPad or Mac–on a Windows computer they'd have to choose another font.
: Re: The Paris Review logo font? What is the font used in the Paris Review logo? WTF suggests Stone Serif, but the shapes are very different. I've also tried fontspring.com, whatfontis.com, fonts.com
Late reply as it's interesting. While custom, this looks a lot like Fournier, the Roman du Roi or some of the other fonts of the eighteenth century. The tell is the curled leg of the 'R', which is an eighteenth/late-seventeeth-century feature, and the narrow, almost monoline serifs, although the 'h' with its leg folding inwards is more sixteenth. Fournier has been digitised by Monotype, Typofonderie and Joshua Darden, so you have a bit of choice. Fleischmann's types are also in the same mood.

When I try to blend two lines, I keep getting holes in parts of the blend.
I have gotten the advice to increase the number of steps an make the number of points the same but with the same result (the lower image has 300 steps, with 8 points on each path)
Anyone an idea on how I can solve this?
edit: few more details:
both lines have a stroke of 1 px, no fill
the upper blend has 50 steps (not sure about the number of path points though)
the lower blend has 300 steps and 8 points in each path

I've found a Illustrator cc script that i've adapted and added to make my life 5 times easier. To make it 6 times easier i'd love to save it to a destination folder chosen in the diaglog box at the start. For the life of me I can't work out what to do. Everything I try either saves it in the folders current location or in recent location.
What the current script does is:
Saves .ai file out as 3 separate files based on some presets with the following extentions .ai OL.pdf and OL_LR.pdf
#target illustrator #targetengine "main"
var workingDoc = app.documents[x];
var workingDocFile = workingDoc.fullName;
var HighPreset = 'High Res';
var LowPreset = 'Low Res';
// populate these with your settings
var aiFile = new File(workingDocFile.toString().replace(".ai","_OL.ai"));
var lowResOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
var highResOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
var lowResFile = new
var highResFile = new
Any help would be much appreciated.
: Re: Auto crop layer in Photoshop I've been googling this subject and also searched in this forum, all I found were posts about removing semi transparent pixels, ie. not what I have a problem with.
To "auto-crop" use the magic wand tool or quick selection tool and select the outside of what you'd want to crop to. Then select the crop tool and it will auto select the area that was selected in to crop. accept the crop and presto!

I created an action which resizes the image, and than saves it as a PNG file to a folder. When I run a batch for a few images to the same folder everything works. However when I change the output folder in the batch, it does not work. I need to change the output folder again for the action, but it will not resize before saving.
If I make the exact same action for the other folder, everything works again. Why can I not change the output folder to run the same batch?

As I am working on this catalogue, I am looking for a way to replace a string of text by an item in a given Library that I created.
Context: The purpose is to replace strings of text containing a product "color code" after a data merge (since it isn't very feasible before) by the corresponding formated string of text (ZapfDingbat color bullet + text with style + some text with different style)
As illustrated below, I have a library (on the left) made of each individual color text strings (the ones on the right), and would like to replace the middle ones (100color, 102color, etc) by the corresponding library item
If there is a simpler way to do this, please feel free to tell me, but I've thought about that for long with no success.

As you will be aware design styles go in waves, IE flat, clear/opaque, curved, fades, tiles, minimalist, retro, halftone etc etc - often styles come back into fashion, and often it is a design industry-wide change.
UI and Graphic (for print/web) are now inseparable as they are often involved in a single product/service.
Is there as yet any clear cycle that these style types are appearing in? do they tend to follow the cycle of certain design houses or companies?

It's possible that Word is making some kind of correction to help you see what you're doing more clearly with smaller fonts. Try printing this or exporting to PDF and see if the problem is still there.

STIX Two Text is good for small print. Although it was designed for maths typesetting, of course it works perfectly in general-purpose use. It has quite a high x-height so perhaps best suited for smaller-print text. The makers describe it as based on 10pt text.

I just started to teach me some UI Design lessons, but since I dont want (and can't afford) a Mac, i had to look for a good alternative to Sketch, which runs on Windows. I stumbled upon Gravit Designer in another question here, and it seems to do the job pretty well for me.
Now I have some Objects, which are part or completely off-canvas (as you can see in the image below), and I want to hide everything off-canvas. I know it is obiously not shown, when I export it, but I would like to hide it in the Designer as well.

: Re: What should be size of Document in Adobe Illustrator? I have downloaded Adobe Illustrator 2017. It has different options for Mobile, Web, Print, File Video, Art Illustration. I have to redraw
You are making a Vector-based logo, therefore the size that you design it to is pretty much irrelevant, as whoever does the layouts for cards, latter heads etc etc will scale it as necessary.
Personally I would design it on a document sized to 1000x1000px
Some things to watch out for though are drop-shadows and stroke(line) widths which do not scale as they are set at a pixel/point size.

I have a few payment brand images that need to go in the footer of a website, the footer is very dark grey, to the point where making the logos grey-scale wouldn't be much of a good idea, especially as we still need the logos to stand out.
For example I took the following logo:
And changed it to fit with our very dominant red theme:
Is this good in terms of the user's perspective? Is this legal or misrepresenting the brand? If so is completely changing a logo to white acceptable for dark backgrounds?

In Sketch, if you have a really tall artboard and want to quickly scroll to the top of it, is there any shortcut to do so other than mouse scrolls? Because the up/down keys (not the main four arrow keys) change the page, instead of panning up/down.
The up/down arrow keys with a horizontal line on them seem to me like they should be used to go to the top/bottom of the artboard, but they don't do anything.
Any way to do this?

Is it worth loosing good-standing with them?
For the legal aspect, please see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derivative_work

: Re: Is converting tiff (CMYK) to png (RGB) and back again lossless? I need to convert a bunch of tiff (CMYK) images to png (RGB) to process them through a certain program, and then convert them
Simple answer: No.
Longer answer: You will not loose image data as such (They wont start to display compression artefacts etc), However in converting between CMYK and RGB then back, you will basically completely screw up the colours. As CMYK and RGB are not compatible colour spaces.
