 query : Re: How to improve SEO ranking of keyword with least content on the webpage? I have a challenge to rank my page for few keywords. But the dilemma is my page is bound to have very less content

@Pierce454

According to www.searchmetrics.com/ Having keywords in a variety of places can help such as:

Title
H1
Body
URL
H2-H4
Meta Description
Anchor text
IMG Tags

Invisible words will be picked up and Google will move you lower in the search rankings. Don't do this
There are lots of tools to help you come up with keywords you hadn't thought of before. There are very good paid ones but a good place to start might just be Google trends as this gives related queries and related topics to a search.

@Pierce454

Posted in: #Amp #BestPractices #Seo #Wiki

I am working on a project to convert some documentation into a mobile-friendly form. The current documentation is outdated and is using MediaWiki, and the formatting is extremely unfriendly for mobile. In addition it is organized in an extremely confusing way. Since I am doing this as a third party, unrelated to the company that wrote the original documentation, I have more or less free reign on designing the site.

I was considering developing a Progressive Web App to display AMP content, as I found that recommendation in AMP's documentation, although the page now seems to be a 404. Part of my reasoning is that my main motivation for developing this site is to make the documentation better for mobile and better organized, and adopting AMP would force me to develop with that in mind. It may also help improve search rankings.

Although AMP is said to be designed for static content, most information around it, including Google's example for PWA+AMP, seems to focus on blogs and news articles. Now a Wiki-esque documentation is not a periodical-publication like a news article or blog.

Is AMP a suitable format for non-periodical websites? Or should I simply stick with making the website responsive using something like Bootstrap?

I apologize if I haven't been very specific in regards to what is "suitable" as I'm still going through the AMP documentation, so I don't have very specific questions yet.

I have an amp page at the following UNS and its already cached by Google.
When this paged is served from Google's cache, its showing a 2 day old version of page.

Original AMP URL www.motachashma.com/amp/articles/ntse-result.php
URL from GOOGLE's Cache www.google.co.in/amp/www.motachashma.com/amp/articles/ntse-result.php
My response header has following for cache control, I was expecting that my page will be updated in cache after few minutes,but its already 2 days.

Response header
Cache-Control:no-store

From my server logs I can see Googlebot is coming to this page every few minutes. I even tried the update PING URL from Google but that simply redirected me to my servers AMP URL.

@Pierce454

Posted in: #AmazonAws #Dns #Htaccess #Url #Wordpress

I recently just changed my Site Address from the admin panel on my WordPress website. After doing so, I got an error from my caching plugin WP Rocket saying it couldn't complete configuration because it can't write to .htaccess.

Since then I've notice a few other things going wrong:

Users can't logout. It gives them an error asking if they're sure they want to logout and then just redirects them to the "my account" page still logged in.
I can't write to .htaccess for changing permalinks and neither can WP Rocket
After adding a product to the cart, you are redirected to a wordpress login with my elastic beanstalk domain in the url. However if you go back and go to cart the item was added.
Various font icons aren't loading. This error shows in console:

Access to Font at 'EBS domain filepath' from origin 'New site address' has been blocked by CORS policy: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'New site address' is therefore not allowed access.

My application is hosted on AWS's Elastic Beanstalk and is using Route 53 to map an alias within a hosted zone to the EBS instance. The new domain I used in the WordPress Site Address field is one of the alias's set up in Route 53.

Things I've checked:

file permissions for .htaccess are 755
ownership of files including .htaccess belongs to the WordPress user
In my database, "siteurl" is set to my elastic beanstalk domain and "home" is set to the domain I am using in Site Address under admin>settings>general

What else could be causing these issues?

 query : Getting a redirect to ugly beanstalk URL rather than seeing my domain name on my WordPress site, despite setting Route53 alias record I have a bunch of hosted zones set up for some GoDaddy

@Pierce454

Posted in: #AmazonAws #Domains #Route53 #Url #Wordpress

I have a bunch of hosted zones set up for some GoDaddy domains. Also, my website is a WordPress website hosted on an Elastic Beanstalk environment.

I've imported the record sets from the GoDaddy domains into my hosted
zones
Replaced the GoDaddy nameservers with the ones from the hosted zones
Set up a "www" alias for my Elastic Beanstalk application in each of
the hosted zones

The domain names successfully redirect to my website, but the domain in the URL is still my ugly Elastic Beanstalk one instead of the set up domain name.

I'm stumped. Could this possibly be a WordPress issue?

UPDATE:

After messing around with different URL's I noticed that typing a link to a specific page on the site with one of the Domains I set up works! No elastic beanstalk domain. However, I did this with my website open in another tab while logged in as admin. The strange thing is that I wasn't logged in on the new tab so it seems the user sessions are not the same between my domains. This could just be how it works, though (I'm new to this).

@Pierce454

You'd have to work at Google to get a real understanding as to how they do this, but the why? Well...

Because every letter in another language is mapped to the keyboard, and the biggest keyboard standard layout in existence is QWERTY. So it doesn't matter which language you input, somewhere along the line it's defaulting back to common searches based on those keystrokes. There's most likely a layer that interprets keystrokes rather than actual character data.

I do the same with Korean, especially if I'm too lazy to change virtual keyboard settings.

Running a LEMP stack on Ubuntu 16.04. Found plenty of great documentation for backing up WordPress:

Export your database:

mysqldump --add-drop-table -h mysql_hostserver -u mysql_username -p mysql_databasename

Copy the webroot where WordPress is located:

cp -a /var/www/nginx/example.com/. /home/$USER/WPBackup/

Can I backup the MySQL database and WordPress installation safely and effectively while LEMP is serving content?

It seems like it could be a bad idea to make a backup while the database and WordPress files are being accessed.

No where in the WordPress documentation do I see a mention of whether or not it is safe to backup a WordPress installation that is serving content. If I cannot serve content while I am backing up WordPress, I may have something of a problem on my hand, as any amount of downtime is bad news for myself and the clients I host websites for.

If I backup WordPress while LEMP is serving content, will the backup of my database and/or WordPress installation risk becoming corrupted while it is being created? If so, how else could I go about backup up a WordPress installation without downtime, however little, coming into the equation?

Two weeks ago (11/30/17) our email opens dropped by about 40%.

We are an extremely small, niche, nonprofit religious site. Our newsletters titles have not changed and are not particular spammy ("Emma Lazarus, Maud Nathan and Alice Menken: Notable American Jewish Women", "Rav Kook and His View on the Modernization...")

Anecdotally, for email accounts that we monitor, we can see that from the past two weeks started going to spam. The accounts we monitor are gmail.

Neither our site nor our IP (shared) are on any blacklist sites.

I am not sure where to go from here to look for answers.

@Pierce454

Use a CNAME record in your DNS zone file:

xyz.foo.com. CNAME bar.com.

Remember, MX and NS records cannot point to a CNAME. And your CNAME must always point to a domain, not an IP. Once you do this the alias "bar.com" cannot be used in any other resource records (like MX).

I got the same results

 query : Re: Transfer domain from missing web host I registered a domain through WebhostFive in March. The company has since ceased to exist. I would like to transfer my domain to another registrar but not

@Pierce454

I registered a domain via WebHostFive back in May 2017. It worked for about 2 weeks and then in mid-May it totally disappeared. I did TraceRoutes and WhoIs lookups to find out that this no longer existed. I also contacted PublicRegistryDomain and was told that they changed to JJRCompanies.

I contacted JJRCompanies and received no reply. I called the 800 number PublicRegistryDomain provided me and the phone rang with no answer until the phone disconnected.

I contacted PublicRegistryDomain via the Compliance ticket process on their website and the Compliance email address. I explained that I had attempted to contact both WebHostFive and JJRCompanies as well as calling the 800 number that they told me to call with no reply. I even tried reaching out the bitsofcream-at-gmail-dot-com that was supposed to be an alternative contact for Joshua Robbins with no reply.

I asked PublicRegistryDomain to attempt contact this individual as their own process of research as I can only figure that they went out of business or had died.

I then filed UDRP complaint with ICANN. Icann closed my ticket/complaint stating that they felt it was invalid. They indicated that I could only pursue the issue if they failed to transfer my account when I requested.

I then requested my current hosting provider fastcomet.com to transfer my domain from JJRCompanies/PublicRegistryDomain to fastcomet.com. I knew that this was not possible as my WhoIs account showed that there was a lock on the account and that JJRCompanies no longer existed and could not provide me with the required EPP.

Fastcomet said they went through PublicRegistryDomain (PRD) and that they would contact them asking PRD to "push" the domain to Fastcomet.

After several days, I was told by FastComet that PRD had refused the push and that I needed to contact PRD directly.

I don't know if the following result was due to my initiating several tickets with PRD or because FastComet had asked for the push to happen and related that WebHostFive/JJRCompanies was no longer in existence.

PRD reached out to me and apologized and said that they had discovered that WebHostFive/JJRCompanies was no longer in business and would set me up as the owner of the domain and create a record in their system allowing me to manage my domain.

I did have to send them a scan of a government ID, the company registration and completed a PRD document they provided to me.

I am happy to report that less than a week later, I now have my domain functioning on my hosting company.

I apologize for the length of this answer but wanted to provide you with the detailed processes that have finally worked for me and hope that your own pursuit of claiming your domain will allow you to be successful.

Possibly PRD will understand when someone states their domain comes from WebHostFive or JJRCompanies and will move much faster.

I have used the Search Console fetch & submit a link to notify Google of a change in a page (for example Title or Description change) and have seen it updated in the SERP within the hour.

You are going to need to grab each external resource and save it to a local file. That may or may not be possible with all of them.

It certainly is for the CSS files, licenses etc but if it is pulling in something from bootswatch.com generally and not loading a file I am not sure what is happening.

Once you have save the files locally, depending on your programming language, you include that file in your script. PHP looks like include("/path/to/file.css");

Scenario: Updating a static HTML file hosted on AWS S3 bucket.

I read that a file (including static HTML) cannot be updated on AWS S3 bucket. Existing file needs to be deleted, new file with same name needs to be created with new content added to old.

"there is no 'partial blob' updating. You need to upload the entire new copy of the file" (source stackoverflow.com/questions/9517198/can-i-update-an-existing-amazon-s3-object)
So was thinking out loud, how will that impact SEO? (Basically whole static HTML file will be deleted and a new one will be created.)

Will the search engine crawl the newly created AWS HTML page (with old name) again in exact same manner had it been a scenario of static HTML file hosted on a webserver (e.g. Apache server)?
