Please, this question has nothing to do about programming. I'm planning to buy a domain and have my site hosted.

This site https://www.lws.fr proposes the service.

My question is, has anyone dealt with them before? I don't want to fall into scams.

Or someone may propose a site he has had to deal with successfully.

I know some people may want to rate me down. But I try not to be in the statistics of scam victims.

Thanks

Check your http/https redirection and make sure nothing is lost, sometimes it drove me crazy in the past with Analytics.

I'll do a little experiment:

Create a unique medium/source for the test.
Go to Analytics > real time and select the medium you just created.
Now, go to content tab. You should see the page you are in (and you alone cause the medium previosly selected).
Browse trhough the site. You should always see in real time the page you are in. If not, there is a problem on that specific page that is forcing the source/medium to none.

Maybe that can help you to identify the real problem in your site.

@RJPawlick198

Wondering if anyone can help me. I'm having issues with prioritizing visible content (PVC).

I've read all the Google documentation and understand the above-the-fold content is the top 500px but can't understand what Google detects outside or inside of these 500px to trigger it. I have tried everything I can think of to find a solution.

I am able to make pages and get the PVC warning when the whole page is above the fold, pages that have no sidebars, pages with no images or small images, pages using CSS to load the images, pages with no external files, no js, etc etc.

I am also able to make pages with many images and background images above the fold that avoid it.

I cannot seem to find any consistent pattern or solution that sheds light on how Google decides what triggers a PVC warning.

For example a page that uses no external files at all, no fonts, above the fold has:

Header of around 150px height with a single small image
Nav bar
No hero image / big image
Div containing no sidebar, just the h1 and h2 tags with some key text

And below the fold has some images and text.

How is this page getting flagged as not prioritising visible content?

Also I can make a page prioritising the above the fold content and be happy with it as a template, save it as a new file name and make minor changes to the text / images with the core code the exact same and it will be fine on one and not the other.

It is the only thing coming up time and time again on page speed insights - so my pages are plagued with tones of speed issues that may be causing it.

Here is the error for anyone wondering:

Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round
trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance,
reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content. The
entire HTML response was not sufficient to render the above-the-fold
content. This usually indicates that additional resources, loaded
after HTML parsing, were required to render above-the-fold content.
Prioritize visible content that is needed for rendering above-the-fold
by including it directly in the HTML response. None of the final
above-the-fold content could be rendered even with the full HTML
response.

The site was built by Yell and we have had numerous problems getting it optimised with Google and I was wondering if this is one of the reasons we have had problems. It is a Wordpress site with Woocommerce.

Google constantly improves, that's also why they are able to tell what an article/text is about and put together what might be a good fit. I saw that they also have blog articles, maybe they did mention it in there somewhere. Another possibility would be that some people might have linked back to this site mentioning that it offers cheap protein, all these are indicators for Google to learn what a site is about.

Let's say I have a page called apple with two languages - en and fr. Now I will have to host this page under two URLs:

EN: mydomain.com/ca/en/apple/
FR: mydomain.com/ca/fr/apple/ OR mydomain.com/ca/fr/pomme/
I am struggling about the choices for the fr one - from a user perspective, would that be better to translate apple into pomme or just keep it in English form? I can think of two use cases:

when using /ca/fr/pomme/ - to gain readability when user look into the URL, they will know the page is about apple in their language (in this case French)
when user wants to navigate from fr to en, for me I will just simply change the 'fr' to 'en' directly in the URL to see the English version. In this case I would say /ca/fr/apple/ would fit my expectation.

So if you are the owner, which way would you go for and why?

There are several reasons why the linked list may have more than one addrinfo structure,
including: the network host is multihomed, accessible over multiple protocols (e.g., both
AF_INET and AF_INET6); or the same service is available from multiple socket types (one
SOCK_STREAM address and another SOCK_DGRAM address, for example). Normally, the

Another issue I found is that Google shows the ratings for some of the listings but when I put the link in Structured Data Testing Tool it doesn't show the schema related to ratings.

I just want to know how it getting the ratings data even though the tool is not showing the data.

@RJPawlick198

What's said here's is insightfull, thank you all. Let's take it up one more notch: adding microdata and such into the equation.

Let's say we've got

<h1 itemprop="name"><a href="http://goldenage.com/maths.html"
itemprop="url">Mathematics in The Muslim Golden Age</a></h1>

competing with

<a href="http://goldenage.com/maths.html" itemprop="url"><h1
itemprop="name">Mathematics in The Muslim Golden Age</h1></a>

To me, 'regardless of the performance', example 2 makes more sense. Because the link is never part of the name. The difference boils down to the difference between innerHTML and textContent, DOMwise. Looking at it through innerHTML, the anchor gets in the way. If textContent were the way, tags would be stripped. So that also puts the question: innerHTML or textContent.

So I would say, taking microdata into account, having the anchor on the outside is more pure.

As soon as I removed it, the non-www and www domains redirect to : 81.21.76.62/index.html?domain=clarallel.com. It's a sponsored ad page, something to do with parkingcrew?

If I prefix the domain with anything else - e.g. hi.clarallel.com I get redirected to a 123-reg site.

@RJPawlick198

I'm a Copyright Attorney.

The above answers are, unfortunately (and understandably), misinformed.

"Copyrighted" "copyright" "copyrightable" and "Registered Copyright" are different words with very different meanings and different legal consequences.

"Copyrighted" and "copyright" are 'slang'-- they have no precise legal meaning ... usually, when these words are used the person using one of them means either "Registered Copyright" or "Copyrightable."

An original webpage is COPYRIGHTABLE ... meaning that it MAY be protected under copyright law.

However, to enforce the rights ("rights in copy") one has to file a DMCA Notice or sue in federal court. A DMCA notice merely starts a process; if the infringer/thief responds properly, the notice has no enforceable effect (absent a lawsuit).

To have enforceable power, one must have a Registered Copyright -- this requires a registration with the US Copyright Office.

Every few months you wait to register your rights (your "copyright") you LOSE rights! After a few years you've retained only the right to sue, but at that point you have all of the burdens of proof and your damages are limited (you won't be able to find a contingency lawyer).

Contact a lawyer, and register Your Website with the Copyright Office within two months of publication. Legally, it's the only smart thing to do.

@RJPawlick198

Posted in: #Google #GoogleAdsense #GoogleAdsensePolicies

Adsense now supports the creation of a Responsive Link unit (in addition to the normal Responsive units that were available long time ago).

However, if you create a Responsive Link unit and place the code in your website, it shows very limited sizes such as 728x15, 468x15 etc which are very bad sizes in terms of CTR.

The following article shows how to modify the responsive ad code according to your needs:
support.google.com/adsense/answer/6307124?hl=en
Does anyone know if the above article applies also to Responsive Link units?

What I want to do is to create a Responsive Link unit and modify the code (according to the article above) in order to show 300x250 Link Unit sizes which are not available normally when creating a Link ad. This Link Unit size of 300x250 has much higher CTR than the normal link ad sizes.

Can I do the above with a responsive link ad or its against the Adsense TOS? I have contacted the Adsense forum but nobody has answered my question.

I have tried the following code modification on my website and works fine (it displays a nice 300x250 unit consisting of 6 links):

<style type="text/css">
.link_unit_slot { width: 300px; height: 250px; }
</style>
<script async
src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
<!-- ResponsiveLinks -->
<ins class="adsbygoogle link_unit_slot"
style="display:block"
data-ad-client="ca-pub-xxxxxxx"
data-ad-slot="xxxxxxxx"
data-ad-format="link"></ins>
<script>
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
</script>

Do you think the above is against Adsense TOS? I would appreciate any feedback.

@RJPawlick198

Posted in: #Analytics #Navigation #Seo

I am looking into creating a web portal for my website. The web portal will be inside the directory of the main site and the web portal includes the navigation menu of the main site. e.g. the File paths will look like this:

Main Site -> /var/www/html/MySite
Web Portal -> /var/www/html/MySite/WebPortal

Inside the web portal I do the following which is included on every page:

require_once '/var/www/html/MySite/includes/navigation.php'

The web portal is accessed via virtual host where the document root is set to the web portal path, therefore the navigation menu of the main site can't work as its outside the document root.

Therefore I thought about making the change so each link on the main sites navigation page goes to via the full domain path, e.g. the menu will be
example.com/page1.htm https://example.com/page2.htm

Instead of

/page1.htm
/page2.htm

Does using the full domain path instead of the relative path affect SEO, Search Rankings, such as Google Search or Google Analytics tracking data.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

 query : Re: Why does the ICANN Registrar list show variants of the same company multiple times? While browsing the ICANN list of accredited registrars: https://www.icann.org/registrar-reports/accredited-list.html

@RJPawlick198

When domains expire/drop they become available to 'catch' and reregister using backordering before they are released for general public to purchase. If a backorder is placed by anyone (including resellers) then the registrar which accepted the backorder get to put their name in the hat. At the time of expiry a registrar name is picked out of the hat and they win the domain on behalf of their customer. Being setup with multiple registrars gets you more chances of winning as your name is in the hat more times (albeit variations of your name which may be for subsidiary companies). With this in mind the registrars most likely to win a backorder will be those with the most registrar entries at ICANN (and also paying the most fees therefore).

Personally I think ICANN should only accept one registrar application per group of companies so that the catch is fair. Typically domain resellers make huge markups on the domains they catch and in turn that money is put to keep buying more registrar applications to ensure they are always getting the best chances in backorder. This is just one of their strategies but it is effective. Oftentimes domain resellers will use scripts to place bids into auctions right at the last second too (this practice is known as sniping on ebay). Additionally since ICANN decisions require the support of the registrars, with the majority of registrars being domain resellers as a result of this method it will prove very difficult for ICANN to ever change this abusive practice.

@RJPawlick198

Parked domains typically just have adverts and this won't impact on your SEO but might frustrate some customers if they guess the .com when typing in your brand name.

If you don't own a domain name then there's always the possibility a competitor or malicious user might use it to try and harm your brand reputation or redirect potential customers away to their own website.

Perhaps one day it will be worth paying the price they ask if your app is successful (though the price may go up!). Keep an eye on it in case they choose to let it expire (unlikely). It's also worth remembering premium domain prices are open to some negotiation. The sooner you get your app monetized, the sooner you can buy the .com and stop a competitor getting it!

If you're serious about your business and protecting the name, register the trademark in your brand name so that you go after misusers of the name in a court. Registered trademarks can be an effective deterrent, and while you can't just take ownership of a prior registered domain name you may be able to stop commercial use of it especially by a competitor.

What I'm thinking is that paper-airplanes.com is literally what people will be searching for and thus it must affect rankings noticeably.

Preferably I would like to do this in PHP, but if I can't using JavaScript is also an option.

I thought about using the User Agent string but this would only tell me if its a mobile device, not if its on wifi or cellular. I've seen several suggestions saying to use IP databases but they all seem to cost money, and it's simply out of the question to pay for the database based on current financials.
