You need to use motion tracking. After effects (linked) has a good tracker. You create your mockup compositing on a single frame and then have the altered layer you created move along a track generated by after effects.

It's not automatic – you have to pick a 'tracking point' that is fairly high contrast and isn't distorted or covered during the shot. That's what the + things you see sometimes see on green screens are, though if you have a good natural edge that can work too.

It works best with flat surfaces – walls, floors, tablets – that don't rotate away from camera (in which case you'd need a 3D track – way more complicated).

T-shirts can work if the only movement is lateral to camera, but if the person wearing the t-shirt turns away it's much harder. Especially if the wrinkles in the shirt move.

That said, I've done lots of simple, successful tracks where it's basically comping it up in photoshop and make it move in after effects.

There's a lot to tracking. I haven't even mentioned dealing with camera noise and motion blur.

This effect is most-likely achieved by using keying in After Effects. So you would need Photoshop to make whatever image(s) you want to substitute into the video and After Effects to compose the video.



Do I need to shoot the video with the actor wearing a white t-shirt as shown on the website?

White or any other solid color. Usually in the film industry they use Blue or Green screens to easily pick out the vibrant color and replace it with whatever effect(s) they are trying to add.



Is there some kind of file (like a PSD) for this?

It probably is an After Effects file with the keying functionality to replace the placeholder image with your own image, Most-likely from a PSD.
