I have been provided a Plesk backup (in the form of a .zip file) in order to access content from a website that is no longer hosted anywhere. Specifically, I need to access the database for the website to get some content out of it. I'm currently working on Mac OSX.
When unzipping the file, I then get a bunch of other .zip files along with a directory called "databases". In the databases directory, there is another directory containing a .zip file. When this file is unzipped it gives me a pretty big .tmp file (about 500MB), I assume this is the database dump. When opening the file in a text editor, all I can see is a bunch of unknown characters, the only text I can make out looks to be spam injections (air jordan shoes etc.). Is there any simple way I can restore this database in a readable format?
I found some suggestions here: How to extract web files, databases etc from Plesk backup manually? Although, I can't seem to get mpack installed on Mac. There are also some suggestions to use Stuffit to extract the files (I'm not sure how that would different from using the native decompress on Mac).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe the easiest way is just to get a Plesk server setup and try to restore the backup there? Please excuse my lack of knowledge on Plesk, I normally work with Apache and MySQL.
