I have a client who makes, for e.g. 'Car Door Windows'. I have told him that a really good domain would be cardoorwindows.com

However, he prefers, for e.g. cdwindows.com and wants to brand himself that way.

He's thinking of buying both cardoorwindows.com and cdwindows.com and wants me to redirect from cardoorwindows.com to cdwindows.com.

My questions is this: If we're redirecting from cardoorwindows.com to cdwindows.com, do we get benefit of the great domain name that the former provides and which should be set as the 'preferred' domain on google?
