We sell art and we are quite confused how to develop the taxonomy of the website which is running Woocommerce.
Our objective:
Develop easy product filters (Ajax plugins)
Build good SEO rank for category pages
The problem:
Unlike for clothes where size is an obvious attribute as it can be used to create product variations, art is more complex.
Art can be categorized by type (around 6 types) [Paintings, drawings, sculptures] OR by style (20 Styles) [Cubism, abstract etc] OR subject (30+) [Landscape, portrait etc]
From a SEO and easy filter perspective, should we define style as category or an attribute? Since product variation is not needed in Art, we think we can either make everything a category or a mix or the two (attributes for both subject and style)
With such diverse options, which one makes more SEO sense? (We are afraid of category dilution (hence SEO penalty) as in the beginning each category wont have many products if we make style as a category for example).
What is the difference between category and attribute in Woocommerce regarding SEO? Does attributes have special pages like category archives?
