I'm not sure which is the most appropriate SE site to ask this on...
I have a mail server that forwards incoming mail to a Gmail account.
However, every once in a while (depending on the sending domain), it receives this permanent failure from Gmail due to the DMARC policy of the sending domain of the original email:
5.7.1 Unauthenticated email from {DOMAIN} is not accepted due to domain's
5.7.1 DMARC policy. Please contact the administrator of {DOMAIN} domain if
5.7.1 this was a legitimate mail. Please visit
5.7.1 support.google.com/mail/answer/2451690 to learn about the
5.7.1 DMARC initiative.
Obviously it makes zero sense to contact the sending domain since they have nothing to do with my forwarding.
This happens despite the fact that the forwarding server does not modify anything in the email.
I've even verified the raw email with dkimverify.py; it passes just fine.
I don't really understand why this should be happening.
What is the issue and how can it be fixed?
