The twitter image in the field "twitter:image:src" doesnt get picked up by Twitter if the image URL is protocol agnostic.

For example

<meta content="//url/of/the/image.png" name="twitter:image:src">


does not work, whereas,

<meta content="https://url/of/the/image.png" name="twitter:image:src">


works.

How do we fix it without prefixing the protocol?
