I have a very old website, it have good SEO and highly indexed pages in Google. However, some of the site structure is old and not updated with modern SEO practices.

One of those poorly structure structured thing is the main URL in relationship to its pagination. Here is the main URL:

/Box1818/2781108.html

The content in the bottom of that page is paginated. If you go to next page, URL becomes:

/Box1818/2/2781108.html
-------------^

It was bad idea to add pages like this instead of using a query string. The problem is that Google Search Console notices that these pages have a duplicate title. I can fix this issue with changing title dynamically.

Similar to this URL, I have more than 25,000 other URLs that have this issue. They all have a duplicate title tag. Recently my indexed pages have been ranking worse.

Is the duplicate title tag the cause of this harm? As I said, these URLs on subsequent pages just change some content in bottom of the page, so about 80% of page content is similar to the first.

Do these pages count as duplicate content? If these count as duplicate content, how can I fix this in this situation? Will canonical URLs help me out? if I use a canonical URL tag, what will happen?
