I'm really inspired by the redesign of this movie poster:

I really love the flat color and the minimal use of shading.

In looking specifically at the outer layer of the sun, and the right hand side of Simba's mane, am I correct in believe this technique is called parallel hatching? How would I efficiently apply this technique in Illustrator?
