Pagemaker was a desktop publishing application designed to assist with page layout and production. Originally introduced by Aldus in 1985, it saw several upgrades and was a common layout tool for many years. It rivaled QuarkXpress at the time as a slightly less feature-rich application which still performed many needed layout and publishing needs.
Adobe purchased Pagemaker form Aldus in 1995 and there was a subsequent release of Pagemaker 6.0 from Adobe. Adobe released InDesign in 1999 while continuing development on Pagemaker.
The final version of Pagemaker was released in 2001 at version 7.0. From that point forward Adobe discontinued development for Pagemaker choosing to focus on InDesign. This included rolling in many of the Pagemaker features to InDesign.
Today, Pagemaker is rarely in use and will often not operate on modern computer systems.
