On the second page of the thread some general principles are outlined as to what sort of things one should do albeit not precisely. But in general, how would one take an image of an originally non-glass object (anything from a teapot, as is shown on the first page, to a human head, or a rabbit) and manipulate it so that it ultimately appears glassy, like the examples shown in the contest thread (there's a link to a layered file somewhere therein, how it was made isn't detailed though)? Also how would one fit in things like environmental reflections, etc.?
