My client has a sketched, thick line style of icon/graphics on their site, but when they are scaled down or scaled up, they end up looking odd on the site because of the change in the line thickness.

Is is better for balance to scale up the paths in illustrator and maintain the line weight?

For example, one shrunk to 30px high in the header looks quite delicate and another one blown up as a background in the footer to 300px high is quite thick and weighted.

Icons on the left are strokes, icons on the right are outlined paths. Which scaling technique feels more balanced?

Another example is the logo vs the background graphic on graphicdesign.stackexchange.com.
