I have a path that is delimiting the outline of a figure (see image, the path defines the area filled in black).
There are some areas which are closed by the path, but those are outside any path (like the one with the red cross, which is actually empty and the white is the background). I would like to fill these areas with colors.
I tried with bucket fill, but even if I click a delimited area (like the one marked with the red cross in the image), Inkscape tells me that "Area is not bounded", and cannot fill it.
How can I fill these areas in a convenient way?

EDIT: You can find an example image having this issue here. The image was produced by tracing a bitmap (but I am not entirely sure about the production process as I am not the original author).
