Does someone know any typographical guidelines for setting (displayed) math formulas? In particular I wonder how to properly define a set of formulas. For example assume that you define a function f such that f(x) = x+1 for all x in some set G. You want to do this in one line and number/label that line, e.g., with the number (3.1). In math texts I often see this style
f(x) = x+1, x in G (3.1)
Or sometimes I also see this style
f(x) = x+1 (x in G) (3.1)
Are there any guidelines which one to prefer? The latter has the disadvantage that there are two "consecutive" words in brackets.
