The gradient in Photoshop is essentially 1 dimensional. You specify colors at points along a line.
What I'd like to do is to define an area, and then define colors at arbitrary points along the edges, or even within the area, and have the area filled with a gradient that matches the colors at all those points, and fades cleanly between them.
This would be useful when removing objects from a photograph that are against a flat object such as a wall or sky. The normal gradient tool works alright, but if you're doing a large area, the various light sources in the room usually make a surface color more complex than simply "it fades from dark to light from top to bottom".
Any tips, tricks, or tools anyone knows about to accomplish this?
Note: It looks like someone was on a similar track here, if that makes it any clearer: 4 colors/corners gradient with Illustrator or Photoshop
