I'd like to make a smooth transition from a photo to a solid background colour in Adobe Illustrator. How do I do this? Does the blend tool work for images? I've been experimenting, and I can blend two objects, but can't seem to make anything work for an image. Is there any way to convert the image to an object, without compromising image quality? I've also tried opacity masks and gradients to make a smooth transition, but no luck.
