Hosting involves providing a server for your website, disk space, internet connection and the ability to manage this server. There are three broad types:


shared hosting is where many sites live on the one server
virtual hosting (or virtual private server - VPS) is where you have what looks like a server to yourself although physically it lives alongside other virtual servers on a real server
dedicated server is where you have a real server to yourself.
