Blackberry, developed by Research In Motion, is a smart phone with common functions like address manager, personal assistant, calendar etc. It is popular with executives because of the Push mail service that let the user receive email in the Blackberry device like SMS are delivered to normal phones. User does not have to poll the email server for checking new mails.
Blackberry software development is done in either pure J2ME or a set of RIM provided API's which tends to be the norm. RIM provides Eclipse SDK with plugins for developing software for Blackberry. They also provide different simulators for different phones. You can develop for Blackberry in Windows/Mac, but the simulator is available for Windows only. For Mac, you will need to connect an actual device for testing/debugging.
