I am interested in registering a .es domain - but what will show up on a WHOIS?

thelettervsixtim.es for example seems to only list the name and email. Same with itun.es, and others like broni.es, etc. It seems like they offer no real privacy stuff for this extension - yet that's all I see for those domains, is this typical?

What can I actually expect to be listed? I'm fine with just a name / email being listed, but I don't know if this is some kind of special case for these domains that I'm somehow unaware of where they only have minimal information listed? I'm obviously entering plenty during the registration like phone number and address but I can't seem to find anything for certain on whether this will end up be listed on the WHOIS for it or not.

Just as a starter, The .es domain does not have a conventional WHOIS server operating on port 43, but WHOIS queries can be made using the Spanish government website www.dominios.es/dominios/ that's why we don't see the same information for WHOIS.

It is not a simple answer. I have looked into the faq of several registrars and discovered that several TLDs didn't allow privacy service like .ES
(information found on godaddy)

Then, i looked at the whois from thelettervsixtim.es & found that the address and phone was missing. It was the same for all .es i have found.

I remembered the ICANN requirements: www.icann.org/resources/pages/responsibilities-2014-03-14-en
The Registered Name (3.3.1.1);
The names of the primary nameserver and secondary nameserver(s) for the Registered Name (3.3.1.2);
The identity of Registrar (which may be provided through Registrar's website) (3.3.1.3);
The original creation date of the registration (3.3.1.4);
The expiration date of the registration (3.3.1.5);
The name and postal address of the Registered Name Holder (3.3.1.6)
The name, postal address, e-mail address, voice telephone number, and (where available) fax number of the technical contact for the Registered Name (3.3.1.7); and
The name, postal address, e-mail address, voice telephone number, and (where available) fax number of the administrative contact for the Registered Name (3.3.1.8).

In other words, the whois information for the .ES don't seem to be in compliance with the contact requirements of Icann since address and phone are missing.

Plus, i have never seen Icann doing any exception for contact requirements. I have looked for the agreement between ICANN and a spanish government and didn't find anything.

Usually, if you want to hide your personal details from Whois registry, you use a privacy service. It is LEGITIMATE and it is well-known & accepted by ICANN. Details from privacy service are in compliance with Icann requirements. With a privacy service, another company acts as an umbrella and add details (address,phone,fax,email) in the Whois as it is required by Icann. So, rather than showing your details, it will show the company details in charged of privacy service. Usually they provide an email address that forward emails to you. It is a great solution against spammers & scammers... but also, it is good because the registrar keeps your details private and it is not spread in government, agencies & organization databases. If you don't see your details in the Whois, it does not mean your details are kept private.
