I am currently managing a .net website that is mulilingual supporting 10 languages, expected to be 16 by the end of the year. This is handled by utilising resource files (resx) and the website accessing the corresponding resx file for the given language based on locale or user selection of language. This is great as we maintain one version of a web page without having to recreate for many other languages. However, the down side seems to be in terms of SEO we are missing out. I am not sure how accessible the resx key/values are to search engines in different languages. I have seen recommendations to use separate URLs for different languages and to have the text itself contained within the page. Any advice from those of you who are in the same scenario and the approach you took would be greatly received. Not sure if there is something we can put in the config files to indicate our approach to the search engines or if its a case of increasing the scale of our site to separate out languages.
