For my blog in English, I'm thinking of either creating a subdomain like fr.example.com or a separate domain like example2.com

It will be a blog basically on the same set of topics but in another language. The posts will be similar but not necessarily the same and with the same amount.

Which option is better for SEO? I suppose that a separate domain is better. How much better would it be, or is it more or less the same?
