I'm wanting to learn how to do this in illustrator

Is there a tutorial that could teach me how to get started on this, or even a template .AI to buy to see how its put together?

I'm guessing its many ovals that are multiple color gradients and then the tricky thing is to have one on each layer so its easy to select and lock the others, am i close? lol

thanks, appreciate any effort given to help guide me ;)

p.s is this known as abstract style?
