Some images in a PDF that I've exported from InDesign render strangely in OS X's Get Info and in Google Drive for my iPhone. I think it might be related to transparency as the images that I'm having issues with are transparent-background PNGs but the behavior is not consistent.
How do I prevent this without using PNGs with white backgrounds? It appears to be related to the way the image renders in general. Images with incorrect previews also appear incorrect in Adobe Acrobat and OS X's Preview application (not the Get Info preview tool) at some zoom levels.
The images below are from the same document and both of transparent-background PNGs. Note: The striated gray areas are a .25 pt hatch and should show up as a solid gray region at this scale.
