I am kind of new to printing over 6m banners and I have a doubt that I'm struggling to understand.
I have currently entered a quest to design a 8x2m banner. I only have experience designing small prints and web images which I always work with 300 and 72dpi respectively. (I usually do all with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop).
However, I now face a sequence of issues for these files:
1. I cannot create files with more than 6m of width or height in Illustrator.
So I decided to double the dpi and half the file size.
2. I face many memory issues when trying to export a 300dpi 4m files as a jpeg.
I do this so I may have at least 150dpi after doubling the file size.
3. What I usually do to solve the issue is to just import the Ai file to Photoshop to try to export the file from there, however, I can never get the file size required unless I drop down the dpi in large amounts.
I usually get something between 90 and 110 dpi.
My main question is: Is it reasonable to drop down the dpi that much for huge printed banners? My guess is that it is, since the image will be huge and usually seen from afar. But I need to know if this is the correct approach or there are other techniques that I do not know.
Thank you very much!
