Is there a way to have a colour overlay for symbols?

Reason: I have quite some icons as symbols in my sketch-project (as they are reused over across multiple artboards). Now I want to display different states of these icons (with simple colour changes). However I do not want to detach them from their symbol, so that I still have the advantage of editing one instance to change them all.

Photoshop: In Photoshop I was doing similar things by simply having my icons as links (as I normally did them in Illustrator anyway) and then apply a colour overlay:





This way I could have multiple states, but still only had to edit one Illustrator file to make any changes. Is there some way to achieve something similar in Sketch?
