I’ve typeset this huge book with unequal columns: text in the larger inside column, pics with captions in the smaller outside column.
The problem is that, of course, all the chapters are separate files so, when I finally make them into a book, some left hand pages become right hand (and vice versa), and nothing happens automatically except running headers and page numbers: the narrower column is sometimes inside and sometimes outside. So I HAVE to go through the whole book and start all over with the wretched columns, page by page or something? I just can’t figure it out. Sigh!

I've tried object align near/away from the spine and all sorts. Mac Mavericks and CS6.

I'm adding screenshots of how the book should look followed by how it looks when text is added on earlier pages. All I can think of is just setting one column for the text, and creating guides to place an image and then a text frame for the caption. I don't like to anchor the pic in the text because the pics have to be at the top of the page. If I anchor the pic to the text at the top of the page, then the text doesn't wrap around the pic (because the anchor has to be somewhere before the pic appears. drive.google.com/open?id=0B3qIjq87cSsDX2tUVlAyM0F4LTg
